Currently working on a few different ideas. Here is some of the work that I did in a printmaking class this summer in Fredericksburg.
I am also experimenting with printmaking using a laser engraver. Not as easy as I thought it would be- if you plan on using multiple colors. I have to make different plates for every color. The hard part is the registration process during the engraving.
I am also working on 2 different social projects right now. One is a personal project exploring how the homeless actually live and what they deal with on a day to day basis. It may be more of a back burner project because I am about to dive into a different one with some of my students. I am partnering with a local assisted/ senior living facility. We are still working out the details, but basically, a select group of students will be paired with a resident of the facility for an entire semester. We plan on visiting at least once a month. By the end of the semester, they will present a completed piece of artwork as well as share 3 wisdoms that they learned from the old person. I think there is potentially a lot to be learned from this project... We'll see how it goes.
I really need to get my website going so that I can display recent and past work in a better manner... So there's another project.

I really enjoy the detail in the buildings of those first prints. I have only had one printmaking class but I loved it and wish I knew more. As far as your project ideas go, I am really drawn to your one about the homeless. I have a “backburner” project as well focusing on the homeless people and their individual identities. The subject hits close to home and I am curious on how your porject pans out.
ReplyDeleteThe other project you are planning with your students sounds very interesting and I love that you are getting them involved on a volunteer basis like that. I know that most of my high school students would be very hesitant at first, so I think that instilling a value for the older generations and respect for them is very important. I can invision so many different outcomes with that endeavor. Good luck with that and I hope you can keep us updated on those projects throughout the semester! I also am in the works of a new website, I do however have an instagram (not professional, I know) if anyone is interested in my art work : april_inthesky I also post teacherly things here and there.
I am drawn to the first two ghostly images of the church. The grey/sepia version is very interesting visually.A note regarding the homeless issue...my son Jim shadowed a homeless man in Austin 2 years ago. Here is a short clip:

I absolutely love the images of the church. I wish that I had an opportunity to try the laser engraving...that sounds really interesting.
